Big Win for Preetismita Bhoi

Sixteen-year-old Preetismita Bhoi, from Dhenkanal in Odisha, won the gold medal in the 44 kg weight category at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain.

Breaking the Records

She lifted a total of 158 kg. Out of that, she did 92 kg in the “clean and jerk” portion, which set new Asian and World records for her age category.

Her Training and Past Success

Preetismita trains at the Kalinga Stadium’s Weightlifting High-Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar.
Last year (2024), she became the first Indian female lifter to win gold in the 40 kg category at the World Youth Championships in Peru, where she also set a world record in clean and jerk.

Recognition and What This Means

The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated her for making India proud with this win.
Her achievement shows how Odisha is becoming a strong player in sports, and how India is growing stronger in youth weightlifting.
As she turns 17 next month, she is seen as someone who could inspire many young athletes.
